Why is 925 silver jewelry additionally rhodium-plated?
Like iron or copper, sterling silver or real silver can oxidize over time. This is a natural and unavoidable process and therefore not a sign of poor quality. Oxidation occurs through a chemical reaction with water or air. In silver, this is noticeable through a discolored surface, which means that it is darker or black.
To counteract this, we at DIAMOND MODE protect our silver jewellery by coating it with 18 carat yellow gold, white gold, platinum or rhodium. This protects the silver from oxidation and it also gets a radiant shine.
